Television and Computer Recycling Scheme

Did you know that 700,000 tonnes of ewaste is generated in Australia every year. That’s an average of 73kg from every household. Experts say e-waste is currently the fasting growing waste stream in the country – it’s growing three times faster than regular rubbish.

It’s important to dispose of unwanted televisions and computers appropriately, because they contain materials which are hazardous to people and the environment. Members of the public and small businesses can drop TVs and computers at designated collection points for recycling.

There are no fees for disposing e-waste as part of the scheme. The scheme provides around 98 per cent of the Australian population with access to collection services. Services may include a permanent collection site at a local waste transfer station or retail outlet, or one-off events. These may be operated through your local council or resource management centre.
