World Down Syndrome Day

Join in on the 21st of March to help advocate for the rights and wellbeing of people with down syndrome. On this day, we are asking: What does inclusion mean? As a global community we must work together to create complete inclusion and equity for people with down syndrome.

This year, the global community of individuals with Down Syndrome have made their statement “With Us Not For Us”. This message reiterates the importance of a human rights-based approach to disability matters. People with disabilities should be treated equally. The out of date charity model of disability diminishes their independence, adding to harmful stereotypes that can limit their opportunities.

It’s essential that we remember while some people may have different capabilities or challenges, their value and competency is never lessened. We have to work together to make our communities equitable and accessible for everyone. By nurturing inclusive environments we are able to see what everyone is capable of! Everyone has a right to the freedom to make their own choices.
