Working It Out

Working It Out (WIO) is an inclusive, community driven organisation. WIO has played a key role in suicide prevention and embracing diversity. WIO provides services designed to meet the needs of people negotiating their gender, sexuality, or intersex status through individual and group support; student education and support in schools; training in workplaces; and policy development with government agencies.

WIO also run ‘The Dorothies’, annual awards to institutions which have demonstrated inclusive practice for LGBTI individuals and their families. The awards were named after the Rev Dorothy McRae-McMahon who grew up on Tasmania’s west coast and went on to become a leading figure in the Uniting Church, and one of Australia’s most respected lesbians.
