Becoming a volunteer firefighter is easier than most people think.

The Albury City / Greater Hume Shared Rural Fire Districts offer training ranging from bush firefighting, village firefighting and first aid to breathing apparatus operation.

They don’t just offer firefighting roles, they have a multitude of areas that require volunteers. Communications, catering, logistics, planning and aviation support are critical there is a job for nearly everyone in the RFS.

They rely heavily on the support of people from all backgrounds and cultures in the community. The people that make up the Fire Service are as different as the society that they protect. The minimum age to join the Rural Fire Service as a volunteer is 16.
