Koalas In Care

Koalas in Care is a group of volunteers committed to the welfare and preservation of wild koalas. They provide a 24hr Koala Rescue Service for sick/injured/orphaned koalas. They service an area covering 843,000 hectares which includes Greater Taree City, Great Lakes and Gloucester Local Government areas on the Mid North Coast of NSW. Their Koala Care Facility is based in Taree. It is not open to the general public – this allows the koalas to recover from their injuries or illness in a quiet and stress free environment.

The great threats koalas face are habitat destruction, dog/cow/horse attacks, car hits, and disease including chlamydia and koala retrovirus.

Their organisation receives no recurrent government funding and relies on the kind generosity of the public for donations/bequests and support. This along with their own fundraising enables them to care for and rehabilitate the koalas that are admitted for treatment.

Rescuing and caring for injured native animals is something you can do from home! It’s a great option for people who live in remote areas. Get in touch to receive training before attempting to care for animals, to protect both you and the animals.
