International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction
International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction

The UN Secretary-General states, “Investing in climate resilience creates jobs and saves money”. Today is a day to reflect how, on personal and political levels, we can all reduce risks and prepare for natural disasters.
The specific focus for 2022 was on Target G of the Sendai Framework: “Substantially increase the availability of and access to multi-hazard early warning systems and disaster risk information and assessments to people by 2030.” The UN Secretary-General has announced that the UN will ensure everyone is protected by early warning systems within the next five years.
This sort of action is essential to protecting communities all around the world. These disasters have the largest impact at a local level with the risk for loss of life and social and economic turmoil. The impact of these disasters varies but it must be treated with the upmost caution and preparation.
