International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking

The United Nations observes this day with the hope that we will reach a point where illicit drug abuse and trafficking has been stopped worldwide. The effect that it has on our society is detrimental, making it crucial that we find ways to protect our global community from the dangers of illicit drugs.

This annual event is supported by individuals, communities and many other organisations all around the world to address the major problems that illicit drugs represent to society. It’s essential that communities, governments and health programs strengthen their actions to achieve a society free of drug abuse and the harm it causes.

Please visit the United Nations website to learn more about this event and for ways that you can get involved. Their website also has extensive reading material about the dangers of illicit drugs and the risks they bring to communities.

If you or someone you know is struggling with alcohol or other drugs, there is help available and you aren’t alone. Please call the Alcohol Drug Information Service on 1800 250 015 if you need to reach out or just talk. This hotline is open 24/7 for assistance.
