International Day of Women and Girls in Science

This day celebrates that science is for all. It acknowledges the contributions of female scientists around the world, and encourages more young women and girls to train and work in scientific fields.

Gender equality and science are two vital factors for achieving the United Nations globally agreed upon development goals. This cause is essential to the sustainable development of our world and the future that we are creating for our youth and generations to come.

In all science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields, there has been a long standing gender gap in employment and opportunities given to women and girls. While the number of women accessing higher level education in STEM disciplines is increasing through the years, there is still a long way to go if we are to meet the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
