International Day for Preventing the Exploitation of the Environment in War and Armed Conflict

The environment is a victim of war that is commonly unaccounted for. Infrastructures, habitats, crops, animals and forests are decimated in the process of war, often left for the already traumatised individuals of these communities to resolve.
Of all internal conflicts, 40% have been linked back to the exploitation of natural resources. These natural resources that are damaged and obliterated are essential to many of these war-torn areas.
The United Nations acknowledge the importance of addressing environmental concerns and vulnerabilities as a part of conflict prevention and resolution. If you want to learn more or see how you can get involved, visit their website link.
