Friends of the Koala Inc

Volunteer rehabilitators for Friends of the Koala operate a 24 hour rescue service for sick, injured and orphaned koalas. Koalas are cared for in home care or at the Koala Care Centre on Rifle Range Rd, Lismore. Critically ill koalas are transferred to the Currumbin Sanctuary Wildlife Hospital and/or Australian Wildlife Hospital in Queensland for treatment and then if possible returned to Lismore for recuperation and release.

The group also runs a native plant nursery that grows koala food trees that are sold at just $1 each to landholders in koala habitat areas.

Rescuing and caring for injured native animals is something you can do from home! It’s a great option for people who live in remote areas. Get in touch to receive training before attempting to care for animals, to protect both you and the animals.

Want to help protect koalas? You can become a member of Friends of the Koala, you can volunteer, report a koala sighting, plant koala food trees, and get involved with campaigns and advocacy. Get in touch today to find out more!
