The World’s Biggest Garage Sale (WBGS) is a massive community event – a garage sale – where people donate their unused or unwanted household goods and WBGS re-sell them to create purposeful profit. All profits from the sale of donated items are donated to Australian charitiy benefactors such as The Courier Mail Children’s Fund and The Pyjama Foundation.
As well as educating the community about sustainable consumption, they give back financially by donating our profits from the sale of donated goods to a number of charity benefactors. To date they have donated over $314K to charities.
Their events provide alternative ways to purchase affordable high-quality products (such as clothing, antiques, furniture, and whitegoods). They are also proud to promote recycling and reuse within the community to engage members in more sustainable forms of shopping that diverts waste from landfill and creates a second-life for products that were otherwise unused of unwanted.
You can volunteer in a range of areas at both head office and during a WBGS Event. Their event volunteers make up the majority of volunteer numbers, with volunteers coming out in droves for the World’s Biggest Garage Sale held annually in Brisbane.
